Youth PQA – The Youth Pork Quality Assurance program was launched on Feb. 1, 2004. This new certification program will allow youth ages 9–18 to participate in a nationwide program that emphasizes producing safe, wholesome and nutritious pork for consumers.
The Youth PQA program is modeled from the Pork Quality Assurance LEVEL III program. Both programs emphasize the 10 good production practices that are important for pork producers to complete as they demonstrate their commitment to “quality assured” pork production.
Scholarships - The Michigan Pork Producers Association awards over $3000 annually in scholarships to high school seniors, college freshman, sophomore or junior students. Click to download an application for a degree program or ag-tech certificate program.
Green & White Show – This youth show is open to all youth ages 9–21. In additional to a hog show and showmanship contest, there are many activities that youth can participate in without owning a hog. This show is held annually at the MSU Livestock Pavilion in late January or early February. The 2008 Show is January 26, 2008. Click to download entry form.
Spartan Classic – This youth show is both a prospect pig and market hog show. Youth are encouraged to bring the animals they will be taking to county fairs to see how well they perform again pigs from across the state. These prospect pigs will then be taken back to the producers farm until fair time. Individuals may also bring market size animals that will be shown and then sent to market. This is not a terminal show.
