Swine Health Champions 2020 Virtual Meeting
May 18, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
These live/on-line educational events will focus on herd health and production issues that farmers raising pigs in Northern Michigan may encounter
Michigan State University – Extension and Michigan Pork Producers Association have teamed up once again to address important topics for pork producers in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and Northern Lower Peninsula. These educational meetings will focus on protecting the health of Michigan’s pork industry and production issues that farmers raising pigs may encounter. Michigan State University – Extension Pork Educators and Specialists will discuss various topics that pertain to herd health and general production and will host question and answer sessions with meeting attendees.
Topics that will be addressed during these meetings include: Manure Management, Assisting the Farrowing Sow, Managing the Boar, and Biosecurity and Secure Pork Supply. These meetings will provide pork producers with a better understanding of feedstuff options available to them in northern counties of Michigan, how to manage manure in ways that meet new government guidelines, strategies and tips for assisting the farrowing sow and for managing some of the challenges that come with raising boars, and what pig farmers need to know if there is an outbreak with African Swine Fever in the U.S. and in Northern Michigan.
Due to the current pandemic and resulting CDC and MSU guidelines, meetings this year will be conducted live, but will be delivered using on-line technologies. Pork Educators will be on-line and available to answer your questions, but they and all participants will be at remote sites (at home or office) where social distancing requirements can be met.
The program will be held 6:00-7:00 PM May 18. The meetings are sponsored by Michigan Pork Producers Association and are free to all attendees. However, we ask you to please pre-register so that we can ensure sufficient capacity of our communication platform (slides used for the program and a ZOOM link will be provided free of charge to each registrant before the meetings). Pre-registration also helps us ensure that presentations address key issues and questions brought to our attention from previous years attendees to these meetings.
ZOOM Meeting: Once you register, you will receive information on how to login to the virtual meeting.
