The Distinguished Service Award, Michigan Pork Producers Association’s highest honor, is bestowed on those individuals who have made a significant lifetime contribution to the pork industry at both the state and national levels. Receiving the award this year is Mike Warsco.
Mike Warsco received the Distinguished Service Award for his many years of unwavering commitment to the swine industry. Mike has worked for many years in the nutrition industry, starting with Akey Nutrition and now working with Cargill. He has helped numerous farms in Michigan improve their nutrition and even works with farms worldwide, reaching as far as Japan.
His knowledge of the industry and drive for continued growth and improvement, coupled with his dedication and passion for agriculture, have made him a leader whose opinions are actively sought and valued by his peers. Mike is well-known for his commitment to the industry and excellent service to Michigan’s pig farmers.
The Master Pork Producer Award honors those who have demonstrated skills in proficient pork production and taken an active leadership role in the Michigan pork industry. Chosen to receive the award this year is Tim Kruithoff from Kent City, Michigan.
Tim Kruithoff of Kruithoff Farms was named Master Pork Producer, acknowledging his expertise, leadership and excellence in raising pigs. Tim grew up farming with his farming with his father on a mixed livestock farm that they later transitioned to pigs and row crops. Tim now farms with his sons, Justin and Colin. He also serves on the Michigan Pork Producers Association Board of Directors.
The Contract Grower of the Year Award recognizes individuals for superior commitment, knowledge, leadership and skill in proficient pork production. Brian Washburn was honored with the Contract Grower Award for his role in best practices in pork production. Brian finishes hogs for High Lean Pork.
The Swine Herd Manager Award is given annually to an individual who exemplifies superior commitment, knowledge and leadership in their role as a manager of a pork production operation. The Swine Herd Manager Award was presented to Fred Kuhr of Dykhuis Farms, recognizing his contributions to herd management and animal welfare.
