The Distinguished Service Award, Michigan Pork Producers Association’s highest honor, is bestowed on those individuals who have made a significant lifetime contribution to the pork industry at both the state and national levels. Receiving the award this year is Dennis DeYoung.
Dennis has been a pork producer in Michigan for many years and owns DeYoung Farms. He served on the Michigan Pork Producers Association board of directors, even taking on the role of board president. Dennis was the president during a tumultuous time for the pork industry, working through issues like feral swine, GIPSA, H1N1, the legislation to change sow housing regulations and more. Dennis’ leadership and service are greatly appreciated.
His knowledge of the industry and dedication and passion for agriculture, have made him a leader whose opinions are actively sought and valued by his peers. Dennis is well-known for his commitment to the industry and excellent service to Michigan’s pig farmers.
The Annual Master Pork Producer Award honors those who have demonstrated skill in proficient pork production and taken an active leadership role in the Michigan pork industry. Chosen to receive the award this year is Andy White of Rolling Meadows Farms.
Andy grew up farming with his dad returned home to the farm after college. He is now the sixth generation to operate his family-farm in Jones, MI. Andy and his wife Carrie also own Chops and Co., a direct-to-consumer business that markets product to local consumers out of their farm office. Andy serves on the Michigan Pork Producers Association board of directors and just finished his term as president of the board.

The Contract Grower of the Year Award recognizes individuals for superior commitment, knowledge, leadership and skill in proficient pork production. Brian Washburn was honored with the Contract Grower Award for his role in best practices in pork production. Brian finishes hogs for High Lean Pork.

The Swine Herd Manager Award is given annually to an individual who exemplifies superior commitment, knowledge and leadership in their role as a manager of a pork production operation. The Swine Herd Manager Award was presented to Fred Kuhr of Dykhuis Farms, recognizing his contributions to herd management and animal welfare.
